Flux core arc welding uses a tubular wire that is filled with flux. The arc is initiated between the continuous wire electrode and the workpiece. The flux which is contained within the core of the tubular electrode melts during welding and shields the weld pool from the atmosphere. Flux core wire is used in flux core welding. It is used when welding thicker metals. It differs from flux core soldering and is ideal for heavy-duty or industrial applications since a finished bond is much more secure.
