Diabetes is caused by: a) the pancreas’ inability to produce enough insulin and/or b) an immune response blocking cells from using some or all of the insulin the pancreas does produce. Both of these appear to be an autoimmune response gone awry. Once the damage is done, it cannot be undone. While there is some promise in stem cell research, that’s going to be many years before it can be used. As far as managing your Diabetes, you can do things to affect how much oral medication or injected insulin you need to take. Work with your doctor. They have training in this. They are your go-to person in a situation like this. If you’re overweight, get to work on dropping those pounds. In my case, losing 20 lbs allowed me to stop using injected insulin. No guarantees, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to get down to a healthy weight. Exercise. I know. It’s a dirty word, but it helps with things like circulation and other side-effects of uncontrolled Diabetes. Get a good night’s sleep. Sleep is when the body repairs the damage of the day. Make a habit of using a blood glucose monitoring system. I understand that it’s uncomfortable and inconvenient to stick yourself in the finger several times a day, but it sure beats losing fingers, toes, arms, legs to side effects of uncontrolled Diabetes. Take your medicine. Whether it’s an oral medication like Metformin, injected insulin, or something else, you need to take it according to your doctor’s instructions. Again, a needle stick beats kidney failure, heart disease, loss of limbs, or eyes hands down! 0 Reply Share Share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp Leave an answerCancel replyYou must login or register to add a new answer.
